Unleashing the Power of Neon Stack on Sonic’s SVM HyperGrid

Sonic, developed by Mirror World Labs, is an atomic Solana-L2 chain built to enable ‘sovereign game economies’ in the Solana ecosystem. Using their HyperGrid Framework technology, Sonic employs Solana rollups for horizontal scaling, allowing developers to deploy their gaming decentralized applications (dApps) on Solana. This would count for an ultra-fast on-chain gaming experience with minimal costs by leveraging the benefits of Solana blockchain and its Sealevel Parallel Processing technology. Within the first 36 hours of its testnet, Sonic displayed promising figures reaching over 300K total wallets and over 52 million on-chain transactions.

The architecture is fulfilling for gaming dApps, which are inherently built on Solana. However, today, most of the game ecosystem network effect resides on Ethereum and EVM chains and is highly fragmented across chains, restricting players to certain ecosystems.

To enable full end-to-end deployment and a multi-chain inclusive environment, Neon Stack adds massive prowess and is the only mainnet solution currently available.
Neon Stack, a standardized development stack designed to facilitate code compatibility for smart contract developers, offers Ethereum compatibility on the Solana blockchain. It is a framework that allows SVM-powered blockchain networks, such as Sonic, to integrate support for Ethereum-native solidity dApps. Neon Stack is the first EVM to SVM stack and the only mainnet live solution to offer this compatibility between the two L1s — Solana and Ethereum — and their native ecosystems.

The Neon Stack offering has been battle-tested on Solana mainnet since July 2023, and other protocols, such as Eclipse, have deployed the tech stack. Integrating Neon Stack will allow Sonic SVM to streamline the development process and reduce the learning curve for game developers — easily port games from an EVM-based chain to plug into Sonic’s Solana environment while allowing the same user familiarity.

Partnership Impact for Blockchain Games and Gaming Studios

This partnership significantly decreases the overhead required to architect custom solutions while leveraging and unlocking benefits from both Sonic and Neon Stack. Some net positives for gaming studios and gaming dApps include:

Enhancing scalability and performance:

Sonic: Utilizes HyperGrid for massive scalability, handling millions of requests per second per game and settling them back onto Solana L1.
Neon Stack: The stack, with its EVM conversion logic, provides effortless migration to the Solana environment. It enables Ethereum-native transactions on underlying SVM while matching Sonic’s high-speed real-time gaming transactions (Neon Stack is natively powered by Solana’s Sealevel parallel technology).

Customizability for game developers:

Sonic: Sonic's atomic architecture enables game developers to create customized blockchain economies while leveraging Solana’s fast throughput. Developers can use various game development engines suitable to their gaming dApp, providing flexibility and enhancing the gaming experience.
Neon Stack: The Neon Stack framework ensures flexibility to work with a familiar blockchain toolkit. Provides developers with familiar Ethereum development suites like Hardhat, Remix, and Truffle while moving to the Solana settlement layer, simplifying the development process.

Improving player game experience:

Sonic: Sonic's unique architecture will enable real-time fast games, support in-game assets and NFTs, low gas fees and other transaction costs, making blockchain gaming more exciting for the end-user.
Neon Stack: Users can interact with dApps using popular EVM tools such as Metamask, enjoying fast, low-cost transactions, which improves accessibility and enhances user satisfaction.
The synergy between Neon Stack and Sonic SVM opens doors to unifying the fragmented liquidity of EVM gaming chains and provides integrated tools for payment, settlement, and user engagement necessary for building successful Web3 games.
The result - A more inclusive high-powered blockchain gaming ecosystem.
On June 18, 2024, Sonic raised $12 million in a Series A funding round, bringing Sonic’s total funding to $16 million and boosting its valuation to $100 million.
Quote Sonic CEO on why Neon Stack
Davide Menegaldo, CCO, Neon EVM, adds, “This partnership signifies a giant leap forward in the blockchain gaming universe. We are making it easier for developers to scale and create immersive, high-performance games and inspire a new generation of developers and players to explore the limitless possibilities onchain. Simply build what you are passionate about, build games people would love to play, and we will help you do it seamlessly!”

Future Outlook

The blockchain ecosystem has long been fragmented across multiple blockchains L1s, L2s, sidechains, often forcing developers to choose one and adapt to its limitations. Neon Stack and Sonic’s collaboration simplifies this by providing a robust infrastructure that combines the best features of Ethereum and Solana.
For game developers, this would mean unparalleled access to a modular, scalable, and EVM-compatible environment that simplifies the deployment process. For users, the partnership would bring a superior gaming experience with faster and cheaper transactions. The integration aims to alleviate the burden of high gas fees that plague Ethereum, making Web3 gaming more accessible and enjoyable.
With Neon Stack already live on the Solana Mainnet and Sonic gaining momentum on its Testnet launch, the coming months will witness significant advancements in the blockchain gaming space as both partners build together. Stay tuned for more updates in the coming weeks.
